A look back at the Match of the Heroes!

Following this unprecedented charity match in aid of research, held on 31 May with #TeamDesHéros – comprising former Les Verts players and celebrities – at Le Chaudron, Les Verts’ iconic stadium in Saint-Étienne, the story continues with a visit to the Institute on Tuesday 1 September by Paul de Saint Sernin, captain of the Heroes team, and Olivier Goy, a French entrepreneur living with Charcot’s disease.
Our experts were delighted to welcome them and show them the excellence of the research into muscles and muscle diseases, particularly Charcot’s disease (ALS), being carried out by the Institute’s researchers.
The programme included a tour of the neuromuscular physiology and assessment laboratory and the NMR imaging laboratory, with a presentation of the teams’ latest research, particularly that relating to ALS.
On 31 May, the AS Saint-Étienne ‘Green Legends’ and the Team of Heroes, a team of committed public figures, took to the pitch at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint-Étienne for a football match to support research into Charcot’s disease (ALS) being carried out at the Institute of Myology, in tribute to Georges Bereta, the iconic former captain of Les Verts and the French national team, who died of ALS in 2023.
113,851 euros raised for Charcot disease thanks to Le Peuple Vert!
This iconic ‘Match of the Heroes’ charity event raised €113,851. The symbolic cheque representing this wonderful display of generosity from Saint-Étienne was presented by ASSE Cœur-Vert on Saturday 5 September during a match between Les Verts and Montpellier to Mr Christian Cottet, a board member of the Association Institut de Myologie, in the presence of Georges Bereta’s family.
A huge THANK YOU to AS Saint-Étienne and the whole #MatchDesHeros team for their commitment, enthusiasm and generosity, which will be invaluable in continuing the research work already underway at the Institute.
