About us

A pioneering institute in muscle and muscle disease

In 2005, the Institute of Myology Association (“Association Institut de Myologie” in French) was set up, a non-profit association governed by the French Act of 1 July 1901, whose founding members are AFM-Téléthon and Généthon. Its mission is to facilitate the coordination of the Institute of Myology’s activities.

The Institute of Myology is therefore a pooling of resources between a private partner, the Institute of Myology Association, and public partners that bring complementary expertise: Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), the Paris public hospital system; the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA); the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm); Sorbonne University (formerly Université Pierre et Marie Curie); and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). Each entity has its own organisation and its own dedicated partners.

Around the patient, the Institute of Myology coordinates medical care, basic research, applied research, clinical research and teaching. It is an international reference centre that takes part in many clinical trials and studies, mainly on neuromuscular diseases but also on muscle injuries linked to elite sport or to ageing.
