Your most frequently asked questions about giving

The Institute of Myology Association

In 1996, AFM-Téléthon created the Institute of Myology, a research centre giving muscle and its diseases a centre of expertise and reference for patients and families affected by a neuromuscular disease. In 2005, the Institute of Myology Association (‘Association Institut de Myologie’ in French) was created to facilitate fundraising in support of research, care and the coordination of the Institute’s activities.

The Association will shortly become the Foundation of Myology (“Fondation de Myologie”) and will be housed in a 10,000 m² building dedicated to muscle. This new status will ensure long-term financial sustainability and make it possible to raise more funds within a secure legal framework.

Myology is the science that studies muscles, their structure, their function and their development. It plays a crucial role in understanding movement, posture and muscle interactions in the human body.

Donations and tax

Yes. Your donation entitles you to a tax reduction under French law, at a rate that depends on your situation: 66% for individuals liable for French income tax, 75% for people liable for the French property wealth tax (IFI), and 60% for companies subject to French corporate tax. A tax receipt is sent to you after each donation so that you can claim your entitlement. Full details of each scheme are set out in our “ Make a donation ” section.

The quickest way is to donate online by bank card, in a few clicks and in a fully secure environment. See all the ways to give, including cheque, bank transfer and direct debit.

Yes. Contact us at donateurs@institut-myologie.org  to receive a dedicated tax receipt.

Your tax receipt is sent to you automatically once your donation has been recorded: by email for an online donation, by post for all other ways of giving. If you give at the end of the year, your receipt reaches you in time for your tax return. Do you have a question about your receipt? Contact our Donor Services team.

Yes, entirely. The bank details required to process your donation are encrypted using the SSL protocol and are not stored on our systems. Your personal data is processed in strict confidence, in compliance with the GDPR.

The programmes of the future Foundation of Myology are taking shape right now within the Institute of Myology. You can already support the strategic project as a whole, which allows us to direct resources quickly to where the needs are greatest. To target your gift more precisely, towards a research area or a piece of equipment, contact our Philanthropy team, who will share our funding priorities with you.

You are eligible if you are liable for the French property wealth tax, in other words if the net value of your property assets exceeds the legal taxation threshold (1.3 million euros). In that case, 75% of the amount of your donation can be set against your IFI, up to a maximum reduction of €50,000 per year. To find out more, see the IFI page of the French tax authorities.

The IFI is calculated on the net value of your property assets as at 1 January, when that value exceeds 1.3 million euros, on a progressive scale. As the amount depends on your own situation, we recommend that you speak to your tax adviser or your notaire, or use the official calculator of the French tax authorities. Once you know that amount, our team can tell you the exact tax benefit your donation would represent.

The tax receipt issued to you is enough to support your tax reduction. Enter the amount of your donation in the relevant box on your tax return: box 7UF for donations to organisations of general interest, which give rise to a 66% reduction, on supplementary form 2042 RICI, under the heading “Réductions et crédits d’impôt” (tax reductions and credits). No supporting document needs to be attached, but keep your tax receipt, as the French tax authorities may ask you for it in the event of an audit. If you are liable for the IFI, you can choose to allocate your donation to that scheme.

Thank you for your interest in our work. You can contact our team by email at donateurs@ambitionfondationdemyologie.org or on 07 80 91 40 21 to discuss your wishes in complete confidence.

Corporate philanthropy

Your company can get involved in several ways: by joining the Cercle des Bâtisseurs, the Institute’s circle of major donors, by supporting a research project or a piece of cutting-edge equipment, or by mobilising your employees around a key event such as the Semaine du Muscle (Muscle Week). Now, while the programmes are taking shape, is when your commitment carries the greatest weight. Our Philanthropy team will work with you to build the partnership best suited to your objectives.

You can direct your support towards a research project or a piece of equipment, in line with your business activities and your corporate social responsibility priorities. The funding areas of the future Foundation are currently being defined: contact our Philanthropy team to find out more and to identify together the project that best reflects your company.

Yes. Beyond financial philanthropy, you can support us through cause-related marketing, round-up at the checkout, or by mobilising your employees around awareness-raising and fundraising initiatives. Find out about all the forms of philanthropy.

With each patron we build a bespoke recognition programme, tailored to the nature and scale of their commitment: privileged access to our governance bodies and our researchers, visibility associated with your support, and opportunities to engage your stakeholders. Let us discuss it at an initial meeting.

Yes. Your donation entitles your company to a French corporate tax reduction equal to 60% of the amount given, up to a limit of €20,000 or 0.5% of net turnover, whichever is higher, with any excess carried forward over the following five financial years (article 238 bis du Code général des impôts). Find out more about corporate philanthropy.

There are many ways to involve your teams alongside your financial support: taking part in the Semaine du Muscle, workshops and talks on muscle health, sporting and charity challenges, or in-house fundraising. Our team will support you in designing a unifying project that fits your employer brand.

Transparency

The funds raised finance all the activities and projects linked to the creation of the future Foundation of Myology: experimental and clinical research, the development of innovative solutions to maintain and repair muscle, and training, prevention and awareness-raising activities. A share is allocated to running costs, communications and the costs of the public fundraising appeal (a regulated French framework requiring prior declaration). Depending on your choice, your donation supports the strategic project as a whole or the specific area you have chosen to support.

Since it was created in 2005, the Association Institut de Myologie has been committed to sharing, in complete transparency, the financial information relating to the use of funds. It publishes its full accounts in the Journal officiel, together with the report of its statutory auditor. We also keep our donors regularly informed of the progress of the projects they support, through our newsletters and our annual activity report. For the largest commitments, a dedicated contact provides you with personalised updates on the work made possible by your generosity.

The Foundation of Myology is currently being set up. It will result from the transformation of the Association Institut de Myologie into a foundation recognised as being of public utility (FRUP), by 2028. Until then, it is the Association Institut de Myologie, supported by AFM-Téléthon, that leads the project and receives the donations intended for its creation. Follow the progress of the project.

Today, your donation is received by the Association Institut de Myologie, which was created in 2005 and is authorised to collect donations. This association leads the project for the future Foundation of Myology and allocates the funds to preparing it and to its research missions.
