Special issue no. 2, vol. 41, November 2025

In this new issue of Les Cahiers de Myologie, particular attention is given to the updated recommendations on musculoskeletal rehabilitation in neuromuscular diseases. Over the past twenty years, improvements in medical devices, as well as in the respiratory and cardiac care of patients with a neuromuscular disease, have improved their quality of life and extended their life expectancy. These medical advances rest mainly on the arrival of new biotherapies, but also on earlier and less invasive treatment of spinal deformities (such as scoliosis) and on exercise retraining. Where patients once received maintenance or comfort rehabilitation, new rehabilitation prospects are now open to them, addressing new functional abilities.

Still on the subject of care, the results of a survey shed further light on pregnancy in French patients with proximal spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). A review of the various pieces of work awarded prizes by the French Society of Myology (SFM) is also presented. To close this issue, a tribute to Michel Fardeau, a pioneer of myology in France, offers a chance to (re)discover his finest discoveries in the myopathies.

This issue of Les Cahiers de Myologie offers a wealth of topics for an Olympic year: from fundamental work, such as the study of the molecular mechanisms involved in muscle regeneration, to therapeutic approaches, with an account of the challenges of gene therapy in Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

While it is an opportunity to highlight the winners of the SFM prize, this issue does not overlook current concerns, such as the prioritisation of genetic analyses using the concept of actionable genes, or the added value of the advanced practice nurse (IPA), a new healthcare professional in France.

And a fitting close to this sporting year with the effects of exercise on muscle and the role of adapted physical activity and para sport in the comprehensive care of people living with a neuromuscular disease.
