Towards a Foundation of Myology

A pioneering foundation devoted to muscle

The study of muscle benefits the greatest number of people, advancing knowledge not only of diseased muscle but also of healthy muscle, injured muscle, muscle in athletes and ageing muscle.

Now recognised as a discipline in its own right within international scientific research, thanks in particular to the expertise of the Institute of Myology, myology must now acquire the additional resources it needs to continue to develop.

Building on this momentum, and in order to address the major public health issue that muscle represents, the Institute of Myology Association and AFM-Téléthon have decided to create a Foundation of Myology whose purpose will be to study, diagnose, assess and treat muscle as a whole.

The future Foundation of Myology has set itself the mission of supporting this decisive new phase to the highest level, while offering France a fresh opportunity to consolidate its leadership in the promising field of innovative biotherapies.

Based in Paris, it will take shape in a new building at the interface between the city and the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital site. The Foundation of Myology will be a place of international standing, welcoming the best teams working on muscle.

A Foundation of Myology with multiple ambitions

A new building for a forward-looking foundation

On Tuesday 17 June 2025, we laid the foundation stone of our future Foundation of Myology, the world’s first foundation dedicated to muscle research, in the presence of Jérôme Coumet, Mayor of the 13th arrondissement of Paris and President of SEMAPA, Lamia El Aaraje, Deputy Mayor of Paris, Fabrice Chrétien, Director of Scientific Strategy of the Foundation of Myology, Pierre Lara, President of CARAC, a French mutual insurance company, and Laurence Tiennot-Herment, President of AFM-Téléthon and of the Institute of Myology.

Located in the Paris Rive Gauche urban development zone developed by SEMAPA, at the interface between the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital site and the new Austerlitz district, the future Foundation of Myology will extend over nearly 10,000 m² by the end of 2027.

Designed by the consortium made up of the architects Brunet Saunier & Associés and Belval & Parquet Architectes, the engineering firms CET Ingénierie and GAYA Développement Durable, and with the expertise of CAREIT Projet Management, the building has been conceived with environmental quality in mind and will notably aim for HQE Bâtiment Durable certification at the excellent level.
