Assessing falls in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease
Partager sur
Researchers in Clermont-Ferrand investigated the risk of falls in hereditary sensory and motor neuropathy of the CMT-1A type (associated with a duplication of the PMP22 gene):
- Forty adults diagnosed with CMT-1A took part in this study, which was conducted at the University Hospital and ran for one year;
- the aim was to compare the number of falls reported by patients with their results on the ‘Time to Get Up and Go’ (or TUG) test;
- the sample comprised predominantly women, with a median age of 52 years,
- no correlation was observed between the TUG and the risk of falls, nor with other assessment tools such as the 6-minute walk test or the Berg Balance Scale, not even in a longitudinal analysis.
