TEACHING
AcadeMYO
Every year the Institute of Myology runs AcadeMYO, a school of myology that allows healthcare professionals of every nationality to follow a condensed programme covering the whole range of neuromuscular diseases.
AcadeMYO
The course is aimed primarily at healthcare professionals and scientists from abroad. Over one week, participants follow an intensive programme covering the whole range of neuromuscular diseases in children and adults.
The aim is to encourage the dissemination of knowledge about muscle and muscle disease, and so to help raise the profile of myology in the medical and scientific fields.
The course is taught in English.
AcadeMYO is an opportunity to build collaborations with professionals and with teams of physicians and researchers from all over the world, and in particular from countries where this new medical and scientific discipline is emerging.
Two sessions each year
Summer AcadeMYO
The summer session of the course takes place in late June and early July, in person only, at the premises of the Institute of Myology in Paris.
The teaching combines lectures given by experts, group sessions bringing students and clinicians together to discuss clinical cases, and hands-on workshops. The course covers every subject related to myology, along with current news and the latest scientific and therapeutic advances in neuromuscular diseases.

The Summer School of Myology evolved and became AcadeMYO in June 2021
“Taking things in chronological order, we were already thinking about changing the format of our summer school well before the pandemic, because we were receiving a growing number of applications and could only take a limited number of students. ”
Interview with Norma B. Romero and J. Andoni Urtizberea, heads of AcadeMYO
The Summer School of Myology celebrated its 20th anniversary in June 2017
“In 1996, the very young Institute of Myology was looking for a way to make its new discipline better known, and that is how the Summer School of Myology (SSM), or École d’Été de Myologie in French, came into being. ”
