Center of Research in Myology
The Center of Research in Myology brings together nine scientific teams whose shared scientific priorities are basic research, research into neuromuscular diseases and therapeutic applications
Center of Research in Myology
Created on 1 January 2014, the Center of Research in Myology is headed by Denis Furling, PhD, assisted by Marc Bitoun, PhD. It is a centre of research excellence dedicated to understanding the basic mechanisms of muscle within its environment (cellular, such as neurons and inflammatory cells, or at whole-body level, including other organs targeted by muscle diseases such as the heart) and to translating these discoveries into new concepts to improve care for patients with muscle diseases.
The Center of Research in Myology is a Joint Research Unit in Health (UMRS 974) with two supervisory bodies: Sorbonne University and the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm). It also benefits from a privileged partnership with the Institute of Myology Association (AIM, “Association Institut de Myologie” in French).
This multidisciplinary research centre comprises nine teams and brings together around 150 researchers, physicians, engineers, technicians, postdoctoral researchers and PhD students from Inserm, Sorbonne University, the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and AIM, working on basic research, research into neuromuscular diseases and therapeutic applications covering muscle, the neuromuscular junction and the motor neuron.
