Myobank-AFM is upgrading certification

Myobank-AFM is a department of the Institute of Myology whose mission is to facilitate research in the field of neuromuscular diseases by collecting, preparing, storing and making available fluid and tissue samples from patients (surgical residues) suffering from these diseases. Its operations and objectives correspond to the definition of Biological Resource Centres and comply with current legislation.

Since 2012, Myobank-AFM has been certified under the French standard NF S 96-900, which governs Biological Resource Centres (BRCs). This certification attests to the mastery of the processes for collecting, conserving and making available biological resources.

Since 24 February 2025, Myobank-AFM is now ISO 20387 certified following an audit. This new international standard for biobanks, entitled ‘Biotechnology – “Biobanking” – General requirements for biobanking’, the first international standard dedicated to biobanks. It defines the general requirements for the competence, impartiality and coherent operation of biobanks, including quality control criteria.

Its main objective is to ensure the quality of collections of biological materials, and its benefits include: guaranteeing the reliability of management processes, operational processes and the quality of biological resources in the environment of the biological resource centre.
