A cross-perspective into DATAMYO

DATAMYO is a strategic project that places computerisation and artificial intelligence at the heart of solving new research challenges.

A cross-perspective into this project, in French, by Dr Vincent Varlet (Secretary General of the Institute of Myology, Emergency doctor) and  Dr Teresinha Evangelista (Neurologist and Histopathologist at the Institute of Myology).

Since the Institute of Myology’s creation 25 years ago, researchers and clinicians have collected millions of items of data of all different sorts. The human brain is not capable of processing such a huge quantity of disparate data. The field of Myology is heading for a real revolution, thanks to the contribution made by computerisation and artificial intelligence – powerful tools for innovation. It will be possible to cross-reference this information, to find common denominators, better understand pathologies, reduce diagnostic error, avoid unnecessary examinations, improve patient quality of life, towards achieving better prevention. This is precisely the purpose of the DataMyo project, a veritable warehouse of data on the Muscle, which will require significant investment in equipment and human resources.

A question for Dr Teresinha Evangelista

Will compuratisation change how histopathology is practised?

The Institute of Myology’s histopathology laboratory is dedicated to researching and diagnosing neuromuscular diseases. Artificial intelligence techniques will make our work more productive and more reliable, especially in our fight against diagnostic error and in helping with prognosis.“.
