Rare REDs-type diseases: the latest advances in sequencing

The third workshop on long-read sequencing and diseases linked to the expansion of repetitive sequences (LRS & REDs) took place on 23 and 24 September in Paris.

It was organised for the second year running by Stéphanie Tomé, a researcher in the REDs team at the Center for Research in Myology at the Institute.

Over the course of these two days, researchers, clinicians and bioinformaticians from various countries and a wide range of backgrounds came together to share scientific knowledge, discuss the latest advances in long-read sequencing and disorders linked to the expansion of repetitive sequences, and exchange ideas whilst strengthening the rapidly growing LRS-RED community. The enthusiasm was palpable, and the numerous fruitful discussions helped to strengthen existing collaborations and forge new ones.

Following this event, the organisers now hope to continue developing the LRS-REDs consortium: to create a dedicated website, strengthen collaboration between teams and develop joint projects with a view to future funding opportunities.

See you in Belgrade for the 4th LRS & REDs workshop in 2028!
