DIU de Myologie
This teaching programme aims to give students a coherent, structured and modern view of myology, covering its anatomical and physiological foundations, its clinical practice, its additional tests and its research developments
DIU de Myologie
As part of a partnership, Sorbonne University (formerly UPMC) and AFM-Téléthon created a university course whose teaching began when the Institute of Myology opened in 1996. It recruited nationally from the outset, so in June 2000 this DU (a French university diploma) became an inter-university diploma (DIU), currently bringing together Sorbonne University and Aix-Marseille-II University.
The course leaders are Dr Guillaume Bassez, Gisèle Bonne, PhD, and Prof. Shahram Attarian.
Rapid research progress, the renewal of concepts and changes in patient care now make myology a clearly distinct field of medicine. The DIU de Myologie is unique in France.
Taught in French, this course is open to French and international doctors, researchers and medical or biology students who have completed the second cycle of higher education (Master 2, PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, medical residents). Any other candidate interested in the course may contact the course leaders.
Programme
- Teaching modules comprising
. Lectures
. Presentation materials made available online through a secure area.
. Practical workshop held at the Institute of Myology in Paris (optional). - A dissertation prepared within a clinical team or a basic biology laboratory. Several options are possible, and the arrangements are to be agreed for each student with the DIU coordinators. A scientific session for the defence of dissertations is held in October.
Registration
- Applications close on 30 October 2026
- Registration with Sorbonne University or Aix-Marseille University (details will be provided if your application is successful).
Course
- Teaching begins: 3 December 2026
- Course duration: 96 h, 12 modules, on Thursdays and Fridays from December to May
- Locations: classes are held online (video conference) + optional in-person practical workshop (Paris)
- Access to classes: once your registration with Sorbonne University or Aix-Marseille University has been confirmed, you will receive a code giving you access to an online platform with the teaching resources and course videos (secure access).
Assessment
Validation of learning outcomes at the end of the academic year
- Written examination on 24 June 2027, compulsory, held online.
- Defence of dissertations, if eligible, on 14 and 15 October 2027, held online.
