Signing of a partnership with the University Hospital and the University of Orléans to enhance research, clinical care and teaching in the field of myology

Laurence Tiennot-Herment, President of the Myology Institute Association, Sébastien Vial, Director General of Orléans University Hospital, and Sébastien Ringuedé, Vice-President in charge of the Training and University Life Committee at the University of Orléans, formalised their intention this morning at Orléans University Hospital to establish a major partnership in the field of myology, the science and medicine of muscle.

Building on their complementary strengths and driven by a shared vision of the challenges facing the field of myology, the three organisations have formalised their intention to establish, in synergy by the end of 2027, a partnership that will cover several areas, including:

  • Clinical care to attract and train candidates for university hospital careers in order to advance the field of muscle medicine, whether dealing with healthy, diseased or extreme conditions.
  • Research to develop projects and scientific teams in myology, complementing cutting-edge expertise, particularly in clinical trials, by fostering collaboration between teams at the CHUO, the University of Orléans, the Association Institut de Myologie today, and the Fondation de Myologie tomorrow.
  • Teaching to standardise the teaching of myology and develop joint university degree programmes dedicated to the muscle in all its states.

Myology is an interdisciplinary field that is relevant to the majority of medical specialities. Investigating the role and function of muscles, and the damage they sustain as a result of disease, has the potential to provide concrete solutions to major challenges in innovation and prevention. Muscle mass is a key determinant of our overall health and, as such, its preservation is a genuine public health issue and a lever for primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. This collaboration between the Association Institut de Myologie today, the future Fondation de Myologie tomorrow, the Orléans University Hospital and the University of Orléans is part of a major initiative spearheaded by the AFM-Téléthon and the Association Institut de Myologie to promote and expand this new scientific and medical discipline, for the benefit of everyone, at every stage of life.
