The 2nd Muscle Week will take place from 1 to 7 June 2024

The Institute of Myology and the AFM-Téléthon are launching the 2nd Muscle Week, which aims to raise awareness among as many people as possible of the crucial importance of muscle in our overall health. The event has been designated the “Great National Cause of 2024” and will take place from 1 to 7 June 2024 throughout France.

Muscle is much more than just the motor of our movements: it is essential to our ability to move, breathe, digest, communicate through smiling and speaking, and many other functions essential to our daily lives. In addition to its motor role, it interacts with numerous organs, and its condition has a significant impact on a number of vital functions. It helps to maintain our independence over time, strengthens our immune system, and prevents a wide range of illnesses such as obesity, hypertension, recurrence of cancer and musculoskeletal disorders. What’s more, it can help delay the onset of degenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Despite its vital importance to public health, understanding of its biological role is often poorly understood, and the scientific and medical discipline dedicated to it, myology, remains insufficiently recognised and taught.
