A congress organised by the European Federation of CMT Associations

The first European congress devoted to Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease was held in Paris on 9 and 10 June 2023, at the initiative of the European Charcot-Marie-Tooth Federation (ECMTF).  More than a hundred speakers were present to draw up a roadmap aimed at improving diagnostic error in the disease and developing new treatments.

  • Emphasis was placed on the need for an international health data repository on CMT, and on making the various existing registries interoperable.
  • The first steps towards the creation of a European CMT Research Association (ECRA) have been taken. The aim is to coordinate initiatives to share data on secure platforms, fund research programmes, train professionals, involve patients and raise public awareness.
  • An appeal was also made to young clinicians and doctors to get involved and continue the efforts already being made to combat CMT.
