A review of the literature confirms the value of motor function measurement (MFM)

The Lyon-based researchers who developed and validated the Motor Function Measure (MFM) carried out a literature review to assess the qualities of their scale in the context of neuromuscular diseases, where the impact of innovative therapies is a new factor.

  • Forty-nine articles referring to the use of the MFM were compiled,
  • They concerned the two versions of the scale, the MFM20, optimised for children aged 2 to 6, and the MFM32, used either as part of natural histories or therapeutic trials, for targeted or non-targeted neuromuscular diseases,
  • The psychometric characteristics of the MFM were analysed in detail and confirmed that it continues to be valid, reliable and reproducible.

Eighteen years after its development, the MFM is proving to be a highly effective tool.
