Fabrice Chrétien appointed Director of Scientific Strategy at the Institute of Myology

The aim of the Foundation of Myology project is to give new impetus to myology by broadening its scope to include muscle in all its forms, by attracting the best national and international expertise and innovations, in particular through cutting-edge technical platforms and start-ups capable of turning research into therapeutic solutions.

Fabrice Chrétien, currently Director of NIC, has just been appointed Director of Scientific Strategy at the Institute of Myology. His role will be to define the scientific vision of the Institute, and subsequently of the Foundation, in conjunction with the Board of Directors. His mandate will be to guarantee the quality and relevance of scientific initiatives, to implement the operating procedures of the scientific bodies of the future Foundation, to manage the research programme and to structure the technological platforms. He will work in close collaboration with Bertrand Fontaine, Scientific and Medical Director, Vincent Varlet, Secretary General of the Institute and all the teams at the Institute of Myology.

“The AFM Telethon and the Association Institut de Myologie have given us a tremendous opportunity by creating the Fondation de Myologie, which aims to bring together a large number of medical and scientific forces working in partnership with patients to tackle myology, the science and medicine of muscle in all its forms. We need to share our experience, expertise, desires and needs in order to co-construct this magnificent project with all those who share our Foundation’s ambition,” explains Fabrice Chrétien.

Fabrice Chrétien will be assisted in his mission by Olivier Stephan, Head of Scientific Operations, whose main tasks will be to coordinate the transformation of the organisation and monitoring of scientific projects at the Institute of Myology in order to better prepare for the needs of the future Foundation, coordinate the analysis of project applications for the future Foundation’s Call for Scientific Applications and the selection of successful applicants, and support the cross-disciplinary nature of scientific missions and their optimisation within the Institute of Biotherapies in conjunction with the support functions.

“I’m delighted to be back in France to work with Fabrice in the Scientific Strategy Department, alongside the coordination teams and the scientists at the Institute of Myology. My role is cross-functional and allows me to contribute, with the support and skills of the operational teams, to the implementation of initiatives aimed at facilitating, encouraging and supporting the work of scientists at all levels of their careers. Furthermore, for nearly 7 years I have appreciated the benefits of having the operational and scientific communities of the Francis Crick Institute in London under one roof. The Myology Foundation project and its dedicated building are for me an obvious choice and a great source of motivation” emphasises Olivier Stephan.
