World Duchenne Awareness Day: women speak out

September 7th is World Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day. It is an opportunity to raise awareness on this rare disease that affects 250,000 people worldwide. And if it is mostly boys who are affected, the disease also affects girls. To talk about it, this year, the theme chosen for the Awareness Day is “Women and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy”.

A major conference on the theme “Women and Duchenne” is taking place in Rome and will be broadcasted live on YouTube at 3pm on 7th of September. Women with Duchenne muscular dystrophy will talk about their daily life and their specific needs. Beyond that, the conference wants to include all women and also give a voice to those who accompany and support a loved one with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, or to researchers and caregivers.

At the Institute of Myology, France Pietri-Rouxel and her team are working on different therapeutic approaches and the mechanisms of Duchenne.
