A group of European specialists in autoimmune myasthenia gravis set out to reach a consensus on the inclusion of new molecules (such as neonatal Fc receptor complement inhibitors, etc.) within the therapeutic arsenal for the disease:
- the first step involved drafting the terms of a survey aimed at a wider group of experts;
- this preliminary work involved two representatives of patients with myasthenia gravis;
- the consensus-building process itself was carried out with 16 experts using a Delphi-type methodology;
- 65 per cent of the proposals achieved a strong consensus, particularly regarding the use of steroids and the importance ofincorporating patients’ quality of life into decision–making.
The results of this study cannot replace either the individual decisions of each clinician or the relevant national guidelines. The authors emphasise the lack of long–term data available regarding the benefits of innovative therapies.
