An international consortium of researchers has developed and validated a new tool for studying disorders related to central nervous system damage (learning disorders, etc.) in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD):
- BIND (Brain Involvement iN Dystrophinopathies) takes the form of an 18-item scale completed by the patient themselves and/or their carers.
- developed by a group of experts in the field who also analysed the literature on the subject,
- it has been translated into 11 languages and successfully tested in 875 patients with DMD (aged 5 to 42).
The tool has proven to be simple, well correlated with the clinician’s findings, meeting psychometric validity requirements, and easy to use in the consultation setting.
