Clinicians in Martinique report on their experience in the field of inflammatory myopathies occurring in the Caribbean population of African origin:
- the records of 174 patients diagnosed in this overseas community between 2000 and 2023 were reviewed,
- among them, 55 corresponded to anti-synthetase syndrome, 44 to overlap myositis, 44 to dermatomyositis, 16 with polymyositis, 14 with autoimmune necrotising myopathy and only one case of inclusion body myositi,.
- the overall prevalence was estimated at 2.34 cases per 100,000 inhabitants for the year 2022 alone,
- despite appropriate treatment, relapse occurred in nearly half of the cases.
The authors highlight the particularly high incidence of inflammatory myositis in this population of African origin.
