Danish researchers report the results of a large epidemiological study on mortality observed in myasthenia gravis between 1985 and 2020:
- the information was drawn from existing health data warehouses in Denmark,
- mortality figures were defined according to the date of occurrence of the event (within one year [short term], or between 1 and 5 years [medium to long term]), and compared, after matching, with those of the general population,
- the cohort of patients with myasthenia gravis comprised a total of 2,110 people,
- short-term mortality was significantly higher than that observed in the general population, especially among people over the age of 75.
- However, long-term mortality was similar to that of the general population
The authors emphasize the need for early diagnosis and proactive treatment in this age group, especially in the first year.
