Pierre Klein awarded 3 prizes

Pierre Klein, a former PhD student at the Institute of Myology, has been awarded 3 prizes within the space of a few months.

Pierre Klein defended his thesis in 2016 and his research has just been distinguished by the Louis Forest Prize in Life Sciences, Chancellor of the Universities of Paris, an institution whose mission is to encourage research in universities in the Paris region, particularly by supporting the young researchers to whom it awards prizes.

A PhD student at the Institute of Myology from 2013 to 2016, he worked on RNA splicing anomalies and on a gene therapy strategy for oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy (OPMD), within the team of Vincent Mouly and Gillian Butler-Browne, under the direction of Capucine Trollet (Myology Centre for Research, Regeneration Team, Physiopathology & Therapeutic Approaches: Cellular Models).

This research was already awarded the prize for the best oral presentation at the 2016 Myology congress.

Pierre Klein has also been awarded the Young Researchers’ Award of the Foundation Bettencourt-Schueller, which honours annually, the research projects of 14 laureates whose research contributes to the advancement of scientific knowledge on major health issues, with the aim of improving human health.

Last but not least, Pierre Klein is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, where he conducts research on RNA-related mechanisms.

“I am extremely honoured to receive these awards. It is a great recognition of the work we have done. These advances would not have been possible without the support and help of my supervisors, and all the people who participated in the accomplishment of these projects. I want to thank them all very warmly and to share this recognition with them.”
